KINSHIP & FOSTER CARE SERVICES
Kinship Care Assessments
Kinship Care Assessments support children to remain safely within their extended family or close community networks when they cannot live with their parents. At Child First Australia, we assess the capacity of relatives and significant others to provide safe, stable, and nurturing care, ensuring decisions are made in the best interests of the child while preserving family connections and cultural identity.
“Keeping children connected to family is not just about placement. It is about preserving identity, stability, and a sense of belonging.”
Child First Australia provides comprehensive Kinship Care Assessments that evaluate the suitability of proposed carers through a structured, evidence-based process aligned with statutory and court requirements. Our assessments consider household safety, emotional capacity, financial stability, parenting experience, support networks, and the ability to meet the child’s developmental, cultural, and trauma-related needs. We conduct in-depth interviews, home environment reviews, background checks, and collateral consultations to form a balanced and objective recommendation.
Our practitioners approach each assessment with sensitivity, recognising the complex family dynamics often involved in kinship placements, while maintaining a clear focus on child safety and long-term wellbeing.
