Specialised Parenting and Capacity Assessments support informed decision-making in complex or high-risk family situations where a child’s safety, development, or long-term care arrangements require careful evaluation. At Childfirst Australia, we assess a parent’s ability to meet their child’s physical, emotional, and developmental needs within the context of trauma, family violence, disability, or other compounding factors, ensuring assessments remain child-centred and evidence-based.

Our assessments examine parenting knowledge and skills, insight into risk, emotional regulation, capacity to prioritise the child’s needs, engagement with services, and ability to implement safety strategies. Where relevant, we assess the impact of family violence, mental health concerns, substance use, or disability on parenting capacity.
